http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/us_and ... 179369.stmIf the Louisianan marshes will be hit, this may endanger wildlife in an unprecented manner.

I do wonder if the any of the marsh plants could filter and absorb any of the oil if the spill's spread were to reach that far? Probaly not.

Absorbing oil would lead to the inevitable death of those plants.
However wry that may be.

True, but I've heard of types of aquatic plants that can do such things such as absorb petroleum without taking much harm; the name escapes me though. Of course, this may not be true. And it may have been a plant but possibly a type of algae or microscopic organism. I'll have to check this up again.

Actually, there seems to be quite some evidence for what you have mentioned. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/es980740wEDIT: Since marshes are a type of wetland, this might probably apply.

I do believe it to be possible, but I'm not necessarily sure that the types of plants that can do these feats take dominion in Louisiana. If they do, I'd hope that they were in large enough numbers to nullify the effects of the spill, if it were to spread that far.
And what's worse about this spill, is it keeps spreading it could make it's way to other rivers that feed into the gulf-stream. That is unless the river's currents keep the oil from spreading upwards.

Although it pains me to say this, people will probably choose the cheaper cleanup method, without considering the damage to the wildlife. It will most likely cost much more and require more planning to increase the population of some plants that could help clean it then it would for the government to order a quick scrub of the area. I'd much rather go with the option that actually helps in the long run, but the government will most likely pick the s*** response and tell certain media outlets to keep the real damage a dirty little secret.

I thought this would not merit a new topic, but would deserve mentioning. Here's the gallery. Regarding the inevitable return of the great white media: http://blog.sojo.net/2010/06/08/bp-is-i ... ies-again/
