I was bored, So I whipped up this quick music visualizer.
It only took me about 2 hours to program this in GameMaker.

When it's launched, it will ask for a music file to play,so just select one
The wave in the background and the awesome smiles dance to your music!

That said, how does this actually run? Does it run in concurrence with my chosen media player, or does it decode the audio on its own? Or like, couldn't you make it so it was a plug in for a media player?

It's completely standalone using an FMOD Audio dll. The dll has a bunch of nice features including returning number values of pitch, tone, volume, etc. I can then use those numbers in a loop to generate the wave background you see in the visualizer (also make the smileys change direction when a certain pitch is reached, still trying to tune them in tho).

Yes I Have. A very basic music player.
Only Mp3 and Wav.

dude, I got it, unzipped it, and tried to start it, but it just shuts off once it starts.

ah, yes. make sure you have all the files with the program. all the dll's, images, etc

all I did was extract it and it did'n work. I didn't leave anything out.
