Im surprised no one has got to talk about this. The anime is as follows:

In Tokyo, there are two kinds of people: Humans and Ghouls. The ghouls are flesh eaters with strong Spirit-like weapons called Kagune (the manga covers all kinds of kagune). Their tastes are dreadful so anything they eat will taste like garbage to them except flesh of course. Coffee however is the only beverage that tastes the same no matter whether you're human or ghoul.

In order to defend and fight off these creatures, the humans have created a team of investigators (also known as doves) called the commission of counter ghoul. Each investigator wields a quinque which is a weapon created from the material of a ghoul once it's killed.

In the middle of all of this comes a boy: Kaneki Ken.. A bibliophile and a student at a school who hangs out with his childhood/best friend by the name of Hide. After Hide leaves, Kaneki comes across with Rize who is in fact a bibliophile but also a ghoul. When a failed attempt to devour Kaneki Ken crushes the two of them under steel pipes, the only solution that remains is to transplant some of the ghoul's organs into Kaneki forcing him to become a ghoul. Now he has to live the majority of his life facing the responsibilities of becoming a ghoul and wielding the kagune of the once powerful ghoul Rize.

There are 12 episodes in total for the first season. If you're interested in discovering more about the series, there is a 143 chapter manga where the anime originated from (it concluded last week). Go check it out and let me know what you think ^_^

I'm currently watching it. I remember when I watched the first episode, I was a little hungry. After 5 minutes I was not hungry at all.
