In
Fun with Dick and Jane with Jim Carrey, when Dick walks into the convenience store, the clerk behind the counter looks an awful lot like a certain Dante Hicks from the cult classic movie
Clerks. This may just seem like coincidence until you realize the surroundings. He's reading a magazine, is bored with the customer, and doesn't look like he enjoys his job. Not only that, but if you recall a trivia piece that states the video store in
Clerks sells a VHS copy of
Heavy Metal: The Movie, then you'll notice that on the back of the magazine from
Fun with Dick and Jane also has an s**** for
Heavy Metal 2000 action figures, 2000 being the year in which
Fun with Dick and Jane is set and six years after when
Clerks is supposed to take place.
Heavy Metal: The Movie on VHS wasn't supposed to have been released on tape until 1996, being only a cameo in
Clerks which shortens the gap between the two references.
Hm.... perhaps this is an homage to the Kevin Smith movie? What do you think?
Dare to compare.
