sorry i don't come in this topic often because all people post is electronica and wack rap but uhh the obvious place to start would be with Bay Area Speed metal. Try out Metallica's Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning. Next try out Megadeth's Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? and Rust In Peace. From there you should look at some Anthrax and Slayer, like Among the Living or Reign In Blood.

Feint mentioned by nixter is pretty nice.
And the classical sections that you suggested are also cool.
I'm going down the list. Haven't really had time to listen to them all because of school and all that jazz.

Sorry for replying so late. Let's see here: Jazz, classical, electrical, drum and bass, whatever Trans-siberian orchestra is, different kinds of instrumental rock, and I'd like to get into hip-hop and Traditional Spanish music. | | | | |
Pretty obvious, but if you like electronica and drum and bass as well as Jazz, Squarepusher is your man. Not the same type of dance style beats combined with swing that Caravan Palace is, more of a breakbeat style combined with.. well.. Jaco Pastorius jazz bass solos and that sort of thing. His influences really shine through in everything he does though, in more subtle ways than the example I gave. If you can get the good Frank Zappa stuff it's a pretty great combination of instrumental pseudo-rock and things like jazz and advant garde classical music. He has a bunch of interesting sound collages and different experiments. Stay away from his embittered later career filled with nothing but satire and musical technicalities. Except for his Synclavier work, that s***'s pretty hot. Charles Mingus, Jean Luc Ponty and Sun Ra are ridiculously fantastic jazz musicians. If you want to get into Hip Hop, Luke mentioned Flying Lotus which is a great example of instrumental hip-hop, jazz style beats and also IDM and electronica. Also I like the Wu-Tang Clan for my rap group needs. On a similiar note you can try The Black Knights, one of the many affiliates of them. Notable for being produced by John Frusciante. I f*** love it but it's not for everyone. So for replying way after but I thought if you still wanted some suggestions or something. I actually like late Zappa but the point stands.

I'm not actually sure if it's a term anyone ever uses, but it just seemed to make a lot of sense. He himself described it as sort of rock but not really, and judging from the media it seems that it must have appeared to be rock to the masses but anyone who looks a bit closer can tell it's not really at all. Pseudo-rock just floated into my mind and seemed to fit...
