Greetings,

i have been issued a project rhis term, that required me to annalyse and present a book i've read to the rest of the class.

we have been doing this for over 3 years - my problem is not on how to do it. the thing is - everyone only presents books they enjoyed reading, myself included.

SO, in order to put some difference and orignality between me and my colleagues in an effort to raise my simply average marks, i decided to present a bok i DID NOT LIKE, and explain why.

so, after looking over a few titles i only read to see how bad they really were, i decided to do about Twilight.

but then, once i started to read it again, it simply was SO SO BAD i couldnt force myself to continue after page 40.

so, i decided to go really nuts and do the same thing, on Eragon. heck, i used to enjoy this series. i used to rever Paolini as much as i revered Tolkien.

in retrospect, now that i know a lot more about literature than i knew back then (i was about 11 for god's sake), i just want to cry because paolinin is such a dumb writer.

and in my presentation, i would like to do some statistics. could you guys please tell me your thoughts on this particular book? what did you like? what did you dislike? tell me everything you have to say. please.

at the moment, i have already read about half of the AmazonReads reviews, and quite a bunch of other more extensive reviews. All of them negative...

Thank you in advance.

In short, it was a rip off of Star Wars, but then once everyone realized that he suddenly retconned it so that his father was actually his mentor.

was it godawful in the sense that it would be hilarious to watch with friends to laugh at it or was it so bad that you can't even enjoy it in its badness

As a person who frequently watches laughably bad movies, I'd say no. It was just regular bad.

first book felt too much like Star Wars

Second book I only managed to finish because the chapters with eragon s brother Not that murgoh guy or whoever, the blacksmith who pretty much just went on a adventure just to save his waifu (and did it) were much better than the adventures of his bro and superior elf atheist hippies

never read the later two ones (welp gonna make this trilogy into a cycle) although hearing that eragon ditches that elf love interest sounded somewhat refreshing

i guess the whole Eragon saga can be called Star Wars with The Lord of The Rings scenery and Dragon Riders of Pern character names.

also, some stuff is just bad.

lets think, shall we?

Eragon is in the hall of records, looking for the purchase receipt that the Ra'zac would have gained from buying Seithr oil. Solembum (Solemn Bum = serious a**) warns him that the guard they bribed to get in is telling his boss.

soon as they leave the room, there are 30 soldiers. they stare at each other. the soldiers say: "STOP! who do you think you are? what are you doing here? this area is off limits!"
and they are like "We are sorry, we got lost, could you please point us the exit?"

and surprisingly, the guards just say "oh, sure! right this way, gentlemen. sorry for the inconvenience."

i mean, WTF??! are those guards 8 years old?

I remember it being convoluted, with none of the characters, save Saphira, being particularly interesting. I remember liking Brisingr, but I never finished the series.

I remember loving the series when I was in like 5th grade, but if I were to read it now I'd probably hate it. It had some ok idea in places (I liked in the third book, it began with him going after the Ra'zac as he said he would) but it really was just Star Wars in Middle Earth. There's a ton of boring s*** that doesn't matter in the slightest, all big events were very predictable, and from I've read of the ending, (never read the fourth book) it ended pretty terribly.

thank you for mentioning the ending!

...
there are human nukes. because they totally fit this universe.

and what you said is also one of the worst habits Paolini has: Pink Prose. he described the amighty Saphira (i'd say she is a more important character than the protagonist) in 4 lines, butr he took a paragraph to describe a LAMP. and a RING. that would not be seen anytime again.
