Is the new doom actually good because I've been watching some people play it and it looks good even though the marketing made it look awful

A new Doom was a bad idea. Doom 3 was a great game, but it strayed too far from the first two. But at least it felt like a Doom game. Then the new one comes out and doesn't resemble the originals at all, trying too hard to be serious when the whole basis of the series is to have so much gore that it becomes hilarious. Wolfenstein 3D suffered a similar fate. Who remembers fighting Hitler? In the original, Hitler was in a mech and spewed green blood upon defeat. I haven't seen much of New Order, but I doubt they would include something that grotesquely funny.
Anyways, the new Doom is probably good if you don't treat it as a Doom game.

the point of doom is actually not projectile evasion and fun level design, its blowing dudes heads off epically with a shotgun/bfg/chainsaw combo
