Not sure. I did it just because I found a pair of earrings I liked, but they were larger than the size of a regular ear hole. I don't have super large ones. I guess it's the same reason as people had mullets in the 90s.

I'll tell you what, the most annoying and s*** example of anything is always the one that people will notice. All of the dormant regular people with plugs will not be noticed, because theyre sane and respectable. All of the "CHECK OUT MY HOT TOPIC GAUGES LOLOLOL" kids will forever be associated with the trend (which is what it is) because theyre loud and horrifying.
