Okay so advice threads seem to be in, so something's been bothering me as well.

I've been in a relationship for three years and a couple weeks ago I got broken up with kinda but like not really? It's complicated tbh but this thread isn't about that. Anyway, I'm going on a blind date in a couple days and I'm super nervous. I haven't gone on a normal date in a long time, a blind date is really intimidating for me. I don't know what this person looks like, what they're into, how tall they are, what they do for a living... how do blind dates even work?

So my question is, how would YOU scout for interests at a blind date to spark conversation, and do you have any other tips for me to keep the conversation going and not be awkward?

yeesh, i'm terrible at keeping conversations going
but blind (first) dates are basically just meeting a new person. we've all met new people
think about someone you know and how you became friends/lovers/whatevs and take lessons from that maybe?
that's how i think i'd go about it

also if you run out of things to say you should ask the person something about them,
possibly stretching out the convo a decent length
being awkward for me is usually looking away, covering my face, and speaking low

i'm not a love master or anything, so try not to take these too much to heart!!
for example, i hear some girls actually like shy guys
but i haven't met one, hence the "don't be awkward" advice i gave.

I would probably PANIC because meeting new people is f*** bonkers

just be yourself and try to meet and know how they are and see if you're compatible i guess??? idk im 14 and super awkward with new people

ask them about their interests first, people usually like talking about themselves, and if you've got the ear to listen, you can just smoothly respond with your own input, if things start to get awkward, try making them laugh, humour is a good way to cure tension and make your time enjoyable

hmm. those are good tips. i think the thing that really freaks me out is sitting at a table with a complete stranger and being like forced to talk to them. it's different when you're like meeting someone with friends or something, but if you're not talking to someone at a dinner date there's gonna be awkward silence. yikes.

if you feel so awkward about meeting a total stranger blindly, then why do you go to those dates? It would be easier to know new people like you just said, with friends.

Just treat it like you would when you meet anyone for the first time and talk to them like a normal person. As long as you don't get too bogged down w/ the whole "date" thing you will be fine

basically every person in the world has a thing that they unabashedly love talking about, either because they know a lot about it or have really strong opinions on it or something. so like for most people on this website it'll be video games or anime or whatever. just ask about them and their story, what they do for a living etc until you get them onto whatever it is they want to talk about and then just ask them a bunch of questions about it and be a good listener.

Don't stay smiling without moving, I can picture you doing it in my head and it's really awkward....

If you need to go on a blind date and not get bored or the date not getting awkward, take her to something interesting like a movie, bowling, or rock climbing, etc.

alternatively you could just inhale some pesticides amirite
