That wasn't the argument, though.

Well in a sense, yes, both games have actually no continuity. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not a true sequel, a sequel follows the events of a previous work. Characters from SMG1 act in SMG2 as if you have never met them before, Rosalina or Captain Toad deliberately confirm this. So basically it is at your will to consider which game actually happens in the "inexistent" Mario timeline. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is actually a different retelling of the events from Super Mario Galaxy 1.

Because the deep storyline of Mario is really about canon.

Also, the reason 2 isn't a direct continuation is because you literally reset the universe or something like that.

That's.. not quite what I meant at all, and I think you're looking far too into the story. I meant content or gameplay.

Also, I don't care too much about the story of Mario but it's nice to enjoy something simple every once in a while. Not expecting 100-hour RPG storylines or anything, but I don't want something like "WELL s***, LUIGI, I THINK BOWSER STOLE OUR YOSHIS."

Then you're pretty much right. After all the power ups and Yoshi, it's just an expansion on Galaxy 1. A good comparison would be Saints Row the Third to Saints Row 4. It uses almost all the assets of the original, but just adds on some stuff that they couldn't do in the allotted time.

Yeah, that's what I thought it was but I wasn't entirely sure. Not sure if I want it or not, though...

Some food for thought, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was actually called Super Mario Galaxy More early in development. So literally, its just more Mario Galaxy, and not really a sequel lol.

There are a few things that would make Galaxy 2 seem better than the first, if you liked the first, you should try the second.

Galaxy 2 is a million times better than Galaxy and if it wasn't for the Spring Mushroom I'd consider it to be the closest thing to a perfect game there is.

You're only hurting yourself by not playing it.

Kyuubit is right.

Don't ask me why,but i played galaxy 2 before galaxy. When i won i was like noooo cause it was my first wii game and i liked it a lot. I looked everywhere for a new game, then i found galaxy 1. I played it but i was a bit dissapointed. No yoshis,no cloud and rock mushrooms, and a bit repetitive. I just preffered 2.

I actually went out of the DLC context. That's not what you meant but what I meant.

There doesn't need to be continuity between two games for it to be a sequel though. There's no doubt that Galaxy 2 is a sequel.

I'll probably just let the price drop first then give it a try. I wouldn't be surprised if I liked it. ^-^ Thanks.

So, you were disappointed with the first game because it didn't have the same features as the sequel.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the whole point of a sequel?
