Beta is more balanced.
I also think the increased frame data and landing lag makes it more likely for higher level players to demonstrate superiority over casuals. I'm specifically thinking of Jab-locks, which were not possible in 0.9b.

Jab Resets were 100% in 0.9b, they made MK super scary for instance. Frame 2 move that resets and confirms into virtually anything and stuff like that :chibirobo: Beta simply changed the Melee-esque Jab Reset mechanic to match its Smash 4 incarnation known as Jab Locks, where you can do up to three Jab Resets in a row.

Right now, Beta is still too glitchy and kinda slow

Especially with Projectiles really dominating half the meta (the other half is probably rushdown or something) due to transcendence

Plus Port Priority

But 1.0.3 is fixing some of those so... yeah

It's pretty even imo, but 1.0.3 might come out on top

This version is stilling getting some reworks. But V0.9B was better competitively.(Biased) My main was much more tough to master and even after nearly 3 years, I'd still find something new. Tech tech tech was what made 9b for me. Beta is pretty simple to play, and do things with. This is the most casual friendly imo.

9b is hte better demo competitively as you had to be a competitive player to do well.

In beta all you have to do is pick up samus, spam Fair zair and CS and you're going to do well. ofc it goes beyond just samus in beta as unless you are a top tier character you're not going to do well unless you're counterpicking someone with your mid/low tier. Tiers are a concrete thing in beta, you have the broken 5 tails samus fox gnw and goku who straight up rape almost every character. the high tiers who do well in general, the mid tiers who are only good vs mid tiers and some high tiers and the loser 3 BDD, kirby, yoshi.
all the tiers are straight up godjank, good jank, no jank, or s*** period

over in 9b characters were just a medium for the player to play through. ie; playerskill was majorly the deciding factor in 9b and tiers actually were for queers.
Sure there was jank, but characters as a whole weren't jank except lloyd. we don't talk about lloyd

wait, can I get an explanation for this? I know he's really good (arguably his best incarnation compared to other smash titles) but I never knew he was that broken

Eh, 9b was more about abusing jank, bugs and huge hitboxes, and beta balanced a lot of that. I don't get the whole "caters to casuals" thing though, seems rather stupid to point out even if correct.

cater's to casuals meaning, it makes it easier for players of less skill to have a chacne at winning.

To me, 9b is better than beta by miles. It can potentially change, but atm nope

People will complain about the current version no matter what. Mark my words, there will be begging for 1.0.2 back before long.

As for 9b supposedly being better balanced: at the time, "Jank" was a word I heard on a daily basis then to the point where it became utterly meaningless. I don't hear it so much now.

I have yet to hear a valid argument for why a lower skill floor is inherently a bad thing. It's a very unhealthy and exclusionary mindset, and as bad as our community still is, it's a hell of a lot better now than how it was during 9b's later life. We were tiny, stagnant, and festering, and we got that way in part by being so exclusionary.

The only reason I see to complain about a low skill floor is if the skill ceiling is low as well, and I don't believe that is the case.

The best things I can see are BAir and DAir being "godlike aerials" and GnW is basically a mid-high tier

Far from broken though, I gotta ask for more opinions on this

Agreed with both the above and Harr, good s*** bois (except for the part about stagnant and festering) which is a bit exaggerated. We just need new people to be more convincing.

Lots of new playstyles in online mode and fresh eyes every day since Beta, I think we're good there
