no you're just getting really mad because smash ultimate 100% started as a straight smash 4 port and just got out of hand when it came to adding new stuff

Is it a port if they have at least 15 new characters, new movesets for old characters, nearly twice as many stages, a new menu built from the ground up (even if the gameplay engine wasn't), engine changes that will make the game feel fundamentally different, Classic mode reworked to be more like Smash 64's 1P mode, I could go on and on here.

Do you even know what "port" means?

To "port" software is to take software designed for some hardware, and make it usable for some other hardware.
To "port" software does not mean take a few assets from existing software, and use it to create something almost completely new.

Ocarina of Time took Super Mario 64's engine and made something almost completely new.
OoT is obviously just an enhanced port of Mario 64.

I genuinely believe your line of reasoning to be essentially the one I have been attacking, so if that's not it, what is your actual argument on how having a heavily modified version of the same engine makes it a port?

If that was the case, why'd they change the engine by changing things like perfect shielding, dodging, and stuff?

Look, if the original plan was to make a port, it would have come out Holiday 2017, and been announced at like the Switch reveal or something.

And even if you were right about the original plan for Ultimate being a port, that doesn't take away from the fact that Ultimate is, in the form we're being promised, a sequel.

They didn't take Smash 4 and tweak it a little, they clearly made a new game, just reusing some assets from the previous game.

Not all.

If it was a port they would be reusing all the assets, or at least most of the assets.

If it's a port, why did they redesign Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf?

If it's a port, why did they revert Kirby's dash attack to Melee?

If it's a port, why did they re-add Charizard to the Pokemon Trainer instead of making the three separate?

Why did they completely redesign the menus, and compose new music, and put stage selection before character selection, and move stamina to a standard battle option?

Literally the only things kept from 4 are character movesets (most of which have small tweaks to them anyways), some graphical and audio assets, and probably a heavily modified version of the same engine.

The rest was made from scratch.

That's not a port, that's a sequel.
