This is our only working computer at this moment, and I THINK I got everything on it up to date. I checked the video card, and it said that it doesn't support Shader Model somewhere, I can't remember the source.

I was told that your SM version is determined by the version of windows I'm using, and according to him I could use SM3 if my computer could handle it.

I tried running a Small game, but it failed to run, the SM version was 1.4...

Is there any hope to get this computer to work with DirectX?

What version of Windows are you using? Windows XP doesn't support DirectX9.0c, and thus, shader model 3.

Windows XP supports DirectX9.0c... That's the version that supports Shader Model 3, does it not?

And I am running Windows XP.

use some sort of sys check tool to determine your highest supported shader version
something like the system requirements lab cyri test (google it)
it's good to know your system, for future reference, specially if you wanna play games

usually though, if you cant support a shader model on a supported operating system, it's hardware related
so it's not totally dependent on it (your OS)

that said, you might need to upgrade your graphics card

No offence but it's 2014

If you're still using XP you shouldn't be expecting anything to work

I'm sorry for being a dinosaur ;a;

And snail, I just hit up on that. It says I have version 0... Which means it's not supported.

aww that sucks, guy. you'll have to buy a new graphics card then

while you're at it take kyuubutts words to heart and get win7 or 8.1

Lord, whoops. I've been going through so many betas recently I've gotten mixed up with OS shader model support. Thanks Longhorn.

But yeah, like Kyuubit said, running anything on Windows XP is a gamble right now. I'd highly suggest upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.1 (If you're capable of dealing with 8.1's changes - if not, there's programs like classic shell to fix that up for you!)

Any computer running XP likely has some pretty bad hardware, anyways.
