Still, Pac-Man is an icon. And Donkey Kong was an arcade game, too. The point still stands that before I played SSF2 I had no idea who Lloyd was and most of the people I know still don't. But if I just randomly asked a person if they knew Pac-Man they'd be able to tell me he was the yellow pizza who ate ghosts and fruits. I think that earns him a spot before Lloyd. Tales isn't that well known of a series, and while Smash has its obscure characters, Marth, Ness, ROB, all of its 3rd party characters are fairly well known.

And aside from America and Europe, where it'll be on the PS3 next year.

The difference is Master Chief has never appeared on Nintendo, but Pac-Man has. Master Chief is a known Microsoft exclusive, Pac-Man is multi-plat.

You said Pac-Man would be fine despite not representing Nintendo in any worthwhile way because "Donkey Kong was an arcade game too". Halo is a home console game too. Master Chief would be fine.

Or hey, Crash Bandicoot. He had some Gamecube games. Spyro too. Why not them?

Arguably, Pac-man is more relevant as a franchise than half of the first party franchises already on smash:
Game & Watch (hasn't had a game since ever)
Mother (hasn't had games in years, was never important outside of Japan)
StarFox (hasn't had a new game in a decade)
F-Zero (same)
and so on

Finally, without Pac-man and its boom, Mario wouldn't have come to be at all.

Therefore, Pac-man must be in Smash.

You'd have to look at Pac-Man's relvance to Nintendo sales and history though. Did Nintendo work alongside Namco to produce exclusive Pac-Man games? Did people go out to buy NESes or Wiis because Pac-Man 1-5 or Pacmanvania were so popular?


iirc the only thing Pac-Man ever did that had to do with nintendo directly (and not just their consoles) was that Pac-Man, Mario Kart crossover game.

And we still haven't come to the "Why Ridley should be playable in Smash 4" arguments.
