Brawl online is terrible, but I still played the hell out of it. And as retarded as this sounds, you get used to the lag. (When it's not horrid I mean, if it's really bad then there's nothing you can do about it).

Yeah. SInce I was playing offscreen, my controls would f*** up occasionally too. All the times I let loose a smash attack/charged special too early were because the signal was broken for just an instant |

When you log on, go to the friends list, add a new entry, and enter in the friend code of the person you want to play with, along with a name. It should show your Friend Code at the top.
