Eh, I dunno, I personally think some fighting games that take the basic "Fight each other with platforming" thing, and DON'T entirely rip-off Smash Brothers, but are inspired by it, are actually fairly decent.

Yeah, Dream Mix is a good example. Jump Ultimate Stars is a good one as well where it's not similar. it's just a 2D environmental fighter. Tales of VS as well.

There was one on the PS3 that I've been looking for and I could never find the title.
It was on the forums way back when and it was pretty much 4-player co-op, I wanted to give it a try.

If you cared to read you would would have seen that I'm not discouraging developers from making similar games, they should just put some thought into it. Like the examples I listed.

Devs can be as creative as they want with the style but the style itself doesn't change

It's not even about them taking the smash bros formula, it's about them taking it and somehow making it bad, which is a very hard thing to do. PSASBR is easily the game that comes closest to the smash bros formula, but they took it a direction that makes the game unbearable.

But we should be discussing this in it's topic, not here.

As for CNPTEXL, it's actually somewhat decent till you get to the part where the game completely quits working in the adventure mode. Aside from the game itself, it also has unlockable clips from some of the shows, which is pretty cool. (AND THEY AREN'T ALL TERRIBLE, IT'S FROM SHOWS LIKE DEXTER'S LAB, NOT REGULAR SHOW OR ADVENTURE TIME)
