Luffy's sprites aren't original, they're based off of One Piece Gigant Battle 2.

They use the Gigant Battle 2 sprite as a base but everything else was made from the ground up. The devs said this in the stream.

After watching a bit more Luffy gameplay, I've learned 3 new things

1. If you don't sweetspot the ledge, you can die at 0%
2. Online, there's either gonna be the godlike Luffy players or the not so good Luffy players. (Either there's gonna be dedicated Luffy mains or there's gonna be pocket Luffy players)
3. If you don't tech vs Luffy you're gonna get like 0-50% easily on you lol

Nerf Luffy's ledge grab : P

Maybe his final smash won't be a different form, maybe he'll have original sprites where he punches everywhere on screen in a circle and you need to be careful where you move to avoid his punches. It could potentially be another Mario final smash, but this could be different.

Also, how many jumps does Luffy have? I think I saw him use 3?

It didn't. Luigi said "frick" and held towards the blastzone because he knew he was dead already.

Also I'd like to point out that according to recent (within the month) numbers confirmed that thousands play our game on a daily basis, up to more than a million in 30 days. At SmashCon day 1 we were the most watched Stream and in general our streams attracted around 1500 viewers each day. Doesnt sound like an 'already meager' fanbase to me.

I've been working towards Luffy for over 6 years. Geno and I worked hard to make sure he would fit in and be unique to please everyone. We're gonna work harder still on the final touches. Everyone at the booth had a blast playing as Luffy and it made me very proud given the level of personal commitement.

You're 1000% allowed to have an opinion. You're allowed to dislike what you've seen. But you have been acting increasingly dramatic about this as the hours went by. Chill.

I agree, tbh that's an insane windbox effect. Would definitely make him a great doubles partner and an unfun character to fight in 1v1. All those command grabs.

It's like, I first thought Luffy would suck

but it's like now i'm actually scared of him :blackmage:

I think you guys should increase the startup frames, and/or make his heavy armor frames a little bit less. That's just my input on his Down-B.

I don't wanna be afraid of getting flown off the stage randomly or getting gimped at 0% either lul
