I honestly don't think another album can beat TPTB as my favorite this year. The new Elvis Depressedly record is sounding very promising so far, however.EDIT: Oh wow, new Arthur Russell album coming out as well!

That unfortunately came out in 2013, so as far as 2014-2015 releases go, it'd have to be either Animals As Leaders- The Joy Of Motion orRittz- Next To Nothing

Last Forever by Westkust is of my current favorites.
Highly recommended if you're into shoegaze, indie-rock, or noise rock.

Q2 METAL GARBAGE UPDATE because everyone cares leviathan - scar sighted / current AOTY, what can i say about it. murky atmospheres, does the whole "complex dissonant riffage" thing without coming off obnoxiously, vocals sounding like they were recorded underwater & filtered through an industrial grade washing machine. i really need to give this a few more earnest listens. ghost bath - moonlover / deafheaven but with a less embarrassing aesthetic & better songwriting dynamics? hook me up. not AOTY material by any means but at least another necessary reminder that contempo USBM doesn't need to be a barren tremolo-picked musical wasteland and can actually be fun/interesting! that guitar lead coming in around the 2 minute mark here is power metal levels of uplifting cheese and i can't get over it also hearty lol @ how these guys pretended to be from china but were discovered to hail from north f*** dakota of all places on my backlog: new napalm death (top priority), new blind guardian, that thou/the body collab album, probably a bunch of obscure gems i haven't heard of

so we're 3 and a half months into 2016 and i wanted to kinda list some notable records that have come out already cpxn - bad dynamicsf*** debut album from up n coming breakcore artist cpxn, im absolutely loving this album. it officially released today but ive been listening to it for about a month. it's probably gonna be one of my top favorites by the end of the year. Massive Attack - Ritual Spiritu guys have no idea how happy i am that massive attack are back and not only just good, but AMAZING again. this soars so much higher than heligoland, it's super engaging and of great quality. if this is an indication of the direction MA are going in i'm incredibly f*** excited. one of my favorite groups is BACK DUDE!!! Ulver - ATGCLVLSSCAPulver, ANOTHER one of my all time favorite groups returned with a very long live album this year. it's pretty great, takes some of the best parts of some of their various alternative styles from the past decade or so. very enjoyable, but really just if you're a big fan. if you're not really into ulver this isn't a good place to start. David Bowie - Blackstari dont feel like i have anything to say about this album that hasnt already been said. it's a moving and fantastic final jam from a legend HKE - OMNIAanother one of those abstract, post-vaporwave post-techno albums that seem to be the latest trend in underground electronic music. this one is still growing on me but it's very interesting. i enjoy it quite a bit. Kanye West - The Life Of Pablo probably the best kanye album so far, really. it's a shame you can only legally listen to it on tidal lmfao stuff i'm looking forward to: Antwon - Double Ecstasy new dalek album new baths album ANHONI - Hopelessness Tinashe - Joyride im probably forgetting a few but yeah dude
