Indeed.

Because there are phones, mail, e-mail and social networks(twitter, facebook etc.) so when a friend moves away you can use these to keep in touche.

That`s the point.

He thinks an excuse for not wanting real life friends is them being far away(as in the move away) but the thing is you can use this things to stay friends with them.

Social networks CAN help you meet new people anyway, if you aren`t afraid of getting raped, stalked, murdered, use for selfish purposes through threats, etc.
