There's really no way to tell from the average user's standpoint. Who would guess that ROB's burner attacks are explosive type? They look like fire. Same with Olimar. Let me point out this last fact, to tell whether an attack is fire based or not, attack a blast box item with it. If it explodes instantly, its fire based. So basically, one should say, the fire shield should block all attacks with hitboxes that cause the flame effect. Actually you know what, i dont even know why im arguing this point, my speculation was for a standard shield, not an elemental one. Lets move on.

What? The standard shield? Not really, if it protected you from either damage or knockback (preferrably knockback, as the cloaking device already had an immunity to damage). And it would probably only last a short while, timed, or until it took enough damage. Unless you meant the fire shield, but yeah im not really backing that anymore, i changed my mind. I would prefer a regular barrier to an elemental one.

I was talking about the fire/explosion shield, but really, I don't think it needs more protective items like that. Quit editing your posts, man.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I still think it'd be kinda cool though. Anyways, further item speculations (depending on characters)
If a Tales character gets in, i'd like to see the Flare Bottle (Character gains red glow, and all attacks boosted by x1.2 for 12 seconds or so)
If Pacman gets in, the Power Pellet might be interesting (temporarily stuns all other characters and deals mimimal damage) <- Im not really hoping for this one, as its kinda stupid, but yeah i couldnt think of anything else for this character.

PK Fire is an integral part of any Ness/Lucas player, and Captain Falcon is 100% fire attacks. Among other examples.

So... Any further thoughts on my Fire Flower/Ice Flower speculation?

But they still count as fire to the game, even if their animation says otherwise. An animation doesn't determine the element, obviously, but when you strike an opponent and they have whatever animation on them, -that- determines it. For example, if you were to hack Mario's fireballs to animate like they were ice but didn't change the damage type at all, they would still have a burning effect on them. I'm sure you probably know this but this is to clear things up. SO, with this in mind, explosions do technically fall under fire-based attacks. Attack effects with hex: show 00 - hit 01 - none 02 - slash 03 - electricity 04 - Ice 05 - Flame 06 - Coin 07 - Cape 08 - Slip 09 - Sleep 0A - none 0B - impale (like DK's side B) 0C - Stun 0E - Flower 0F - none 10 - none 11 - slash 2 12 - hit 2 13 - Darkness 14 - Stun (more like hitlag) 15 - Aura (unfortunately the Aura effect doesn't make all characters get stronger with more damage.) 16 - Impale 2 17 - Down 18 - No Flinch Anyway, I think a shield against any particular type of damage is a bad idea since it is unfair. Not saying items aren't overpowered already, but you'd be a real douchebag to use a shield against a friend who is Captain Falcon, and they can't do the same if you're Pikachu.

Immunity from regular fire attacks is one thing.
Immunity from explosions too is just dumb.

this too while we're at it anyways Oh, and I think the fire flower being used as a B item is rather bad as well. Sure, Screw Attack was already Samus's move, but think about it; did her NORMAL jump have screw attack? It changed everyone's jumps; if it were to just change the up-B, that'd be unfair for Samus since it doesn't do anything, right? Same for Mario; if Mario were to pick up the Fire Flower, it's useless.

Thats why i mentioned to have an Ice Flower that does that instead, and keep the Fire Flower as is. At least this way, it still changes Mario and Luigi's Fireballs to ice instead.

Still, it could work by pressing the a button instead.
I don't think there will be an item that replaces your neutral special.

Then again, using any other button wouldn't feel right.
