I guess that analysis Lil Chen did on the characters playable during the demos was accurate with Samus being buffed. She really needed it after being nerfed like hell from Melee to Brawl.

I didn't know they added Chiyo to Smash Bros! That's adorable.

hey guys i need some help

My cousin's birthday is a bit before the release of Smash and I told him I'd be giving him his birthday present a bit late, he hasn't put two and two together yet. He's gonna be 12 so keep that in mind.

He has been playing SSB since like, 3. He played every installment so far and I decided I'd get him Smash as a birthday present without him knowing.

My aunt and I are both getting a copy of the game as well to play with him as soon as he gets it; we don't intend to open the games until he's around so we can play it together.

We're not sure what to do. Should we unlock the characters for him? He knows the entire roster anyways (he looked at the leak the day it was posted) and so unlocking him wouldn't be SURPRISE FACTOR, but unlocking characters feels achieving. And on top of that, it kinda ruins the "everyone starts at the same time" thing. It's practically beating the game for him. We'll probably be playing it a ton anyways.

At the same time, though, we might wanna get on with the game since we all like the look of Dark Pit and Lucina, and Dr. Mario as well. My cousin likes Dorf too, plus it helps us try the newcomers earlier. In the long run it really won't make too much of a difference, considering how much we'll play the game, and we'd essentially be waiting for content. For all we know, our favorite characters could be in the game.

We want to keep it a surprise as well so we can't just ask.

wat do?

That's really cute, you're a good cousin.

I'd say definitely wait to unlock them with him. That could be an experience right there, unlocking the characters together and the excitement that comes with it. If I was him, even if I was 12, I would want to unlock them myself.

yeah. my aunt and i were leaning towards that answer. i'm still unsure how i'll go about that though. to unlock them as we hit the requirements (since we have to exit multiplayer to unlock them) or unlock them all at one time? hnnn.

Personally, I'd be more annoyed than anything if someone gave me a copy of Smash for my birthday with everything unlocked. Happy for the gift, but still annoyed. Again, unlocking things is half the fun.
You know, first world problem. "My car's the wrong color" and all that.

That sucks you have to exit multiplayer each time, can you even challenge them all in a row or is you do a bunch of matches, fight one then do a match then the next one shows up,

yeah. i considered that too. looking back at it it's kind of an obvious answer and not sure why it was a question in the first place. as i discussed this with my aunt i said it's practically-- no, it is playing with someone else's toy before giving it to them as a gift

you can probably do it like so:

play 20 matches on wi-fi, exit and play one match
battle and unlock ness, start up another battle
finish that battle and then fight and unlock falco

it wouldn't go:
battle and unlock ness, immediately followed by falco

What a relief. Thought she was a bit older.

Then unlock the characters with him and if he can't beat ''said character'' just takeover and do it for him. Don't unlock everything from the get go without him

Anyways, yeah, I'd go with NOT unlocking anything at all. That's what keeps SSB fresh. The great feeling of unlocking that one character or anything else and just having the sheer desire of getting more unlockables on your own as an achievement.
