What's the best tortoise album? I listened to TNT a while back and was thinking about giving Millions Now Living Will Never Die a shot. Suggestions?

definitely, MNLWND is excellent, probably even moreso than TNT

Other than that, there really isn't much to Tortoise's catalog worth bothering. Grab their self-titled and Standards; if you want to go balls deep into cool rare/live material just for the hell of it get A Lazarus Taxon.

Have you heard Slint?

One of Slint's guitarists (David Pajo) later joined Tortoise and played on Millions Now Living and TNT.

You should give their album Spiderland a listen, not only is it a masterpiece (imo) but it'll give you an idea as to where all this angular post-rock/math rock type stuff originally came from.

Don't listen to their first album though. It blows.

never knew what band or album it was

same thing happened when i decided to check out Thrice a year ago

TDaGARIM is really good.

Deja Intendu is pretty good, too.

The others are OK.

they mostly abandoned the pop punk sound after Deja Entendu so the songwriting is somewhat more mature
