Here we point the origins of all the elements in SSF2, whether character moveset, stage elements, music origins, etc. The point of this topic is not to start a video series like CrappyCaptureDevice used to make, but to recompile those curious objects we point while playing SSF2. Developers should contribute as well, as they have the power to confirm and disprove any theory than can be posted in here. This topic will also contribute for the wiki, which deliberately needs the source origin.

I'll be glad to contribute what I know.

  • Goku
    • His Down-Smash is from his battle with the Ginyu Force and is easily one of his most iconic standard attacks. You might recognize it as "Stop - Goku Time".
    • His Vertical Taunt, his ki charging, shares the same command as it did in the Raging Blast series assuming that taunts are mapped to the D-pad as is the standard.
    • His Back-Throw is from the Budokai Tenkaichi series, as the one he and many other characters in those games used.
    • Though his Up-Special is called Instant Transmission, it functions more similarly to the Vanishing Attack mechanic from the Budokai Tenkaichi series; you can warp behind or beside an opponent by pressing the guard button and a direction in order to continue a rush attack without being blocked or countered.
    • His Down-Air is from the battle with Piccolo Jr. in the original Dragon Ball. It was used the same way there as it is here; as an approaching technique that leaves his hands free to follow-up from.
  • Naruto
    • His grounded Down-Special is from the battle against Neji during the Chuunin Exams. Neji previously opened holes in the ground with his own techniques, and Naruto used that to his advantage to set a trap.
  • Sora
    • His Down-Smash is an ability called Explosion in Kingdom Hearts II, which, when equipped, was a standard combo finisher.
    • His Down-Throw uses the animation of the incarnation of Trinity Limit in Kingdom Hearts I which, instead of a combo attack, was a burst of light triggered by unlocking the ground.

That's just great, thanks. Does anyone knows the source origin for Ichigo, Bomberman, Sora and Chibi-Robo's fanfares?

Pretty sure someone asked where Ichigo's fanfare came from.

2 quick ones;
Naruto's stance is actually based off of the one "Naruto Shippūden: Shinobi Rumble"
Naruto's Character Portrait is based off of the J-Stars VS' 3d render.

Pretty well known, but there

Chibi's victory theme is "Ranking Up" from His GameCube game.

Most of Chibi-Robo's moves are from the original game but the Up Aerial and Up Throw come from Park Patrol.

Sonic's Aerial bounce was based of his aerial POW attack from Sonic Battle (or Sonic Advance).

Captain Falcon's entire moveset, with the exception of the Knee, smash attacks, up/down throw, and final smash, are based on the original fighter from Dragon King: the Fighting Game, AKA Smash 64 before it was Smash 64.

By extension, Samus' forward tilt, up tilt, down smash, nooch, and dash attack are all based on Falcon, and are thus also based on DKtFG.
