Skyrim is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, in the land of Tamriel. The province has erupted into civil war after the assassination of its king. Concurrently, the god Alduin, who takes the form of a massive dragon, has arisen to destroy the world. The player character is one of the last living Dovahkiin (Dragonborn), and must fend off Alduin and save Skyrim from destruction.
Skyrim retains the traditional open-world gameplay found in the Elder Scrolls series. The player is free to roam the land of Skyrim at will, either on-foot or on horseback.
Now Elder Scrolls have AMAZING free roaming, if you wanted to you could just ignore the main quest and have an equal amount of fun.

Now in short a Dragonborn is someone who is born with the soul of a dragon, meaning that they have been given a gift by the gods. This allows them to absorb souls of dragons they have slain learning new Dragon Shouts in the new language they've invented for the game.
In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a new language will be released; that of the Dragons. Sometimes referred to as Dragonish or Dragonian, this language has become rare on Tamriel since the disappearance of its dragons. The main character of Skyrim, the Dragonborn (or Dovahkiin) will be able to learn parts of the language, using them to cast power spells known as Dragon shouts. Unrelatedly, speakers of the language can calm Dragonlings with it.
Dragon Shouts (Dovahzaan) are an arcane form of magic that was previously far more prominent in Tamriel, as of Skyrim there are few who retain the ability to perfrom Dragon Shouts. Dragonborn (Dovahkiin) are able to use the language of the dragons to great effect due to their ability to absorb the souls of dragons. Also, a minority of non-player characters also have the ability to use dragon shouts.

List of confirmed Dragon Shouts:
Fus Roh Dah/Force Balance Push: Fires a shockwave of force energy that stuns and pushes enemies.
Iiz Slen/Ice Crystals: Spews a torrent of ice crystals.
Strun Bah Qo/Lightning Storm: Summons a thunderstorm to strike enemies with lightning on nearby enemies (outdoor only).
Yol Toor/Fire Breath: Allows player to breath fire at enemies

Now the language stated above is a real language, with a alphabet and everything. I mean you could carry out a entire conversation with someone speaking Dragonian and understand what there saying.

English Translation
Dragonborn Dragonborn
By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph’s shout
Dragonborn for your blessing we pray
And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That when brothers wage war come unfurled
Alduin, bane of kings
Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world

They are much better with mods, especially the patches, but they're fine without them too.

I found it interesting that they made their devs invent an entire language that "would look like it would be written by dragons".

They really pulled it off, is what surprises me the most.

Saw the E3 demo and to be honest it looks like it could be the best game of the year.

Don't you just love it when developers do that.

The sad part is I can understand it partially.

Anyway...
Did anybody here play Oblivion?
If your getting it the game might be hard to understand at times if you haven't played it yet.

This.

Everything looked the same and level scaling enemies/loot was just dumb.

I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas and I didn't have them for PC (My laptop is dead now and my other computer can't handle them. *Sadface*), the only issues I had with Oblivion with the repetitiveness.

I know but it still uses the same engine and is still very similar in gameplay.

THough for some reason I did like New Vegas a lot better than 3.

Anyway, that's not the purpose of the thread, so I'll be getting back on topic now.

Skyrim looks to be a great game so far, I've been following it since a month or two before E3 and it looks far better than Oblivion or Fallout 3.

I see a lot of potential there, and Bethesda is one of the few companies that fails to disappoint me.

How can you not like Morrowind?

And why is this in Console Gaming again?
