Just because Raiden was focused on in two and his upcoming game does not mean in any way that he is the new protagonist. Like at all, lol. "Snake" is the protagonist of the in-development Metal Gear Solid 5, so I mean. I promise that the deciding factor of Raiden being picked over Snake was his inclusion in the very series that they copied. The fact that Raiden has Rising helped him along I'm sure. In the case of Dante I see what you mean but I don't think they're comparable, since it's still Dante in essence. It would be like including Virgil only, sort of.

Ground Zero or whatever its called is proof enough to me that they aren't shifting focus away from Snake, but more showing them as equals. Difference being one character is geared towards a fast, action-based system while the other is geared towards slower, more patient gameplay. Thus Raiden would be more appropriate since Rising is based more around combat than Solid.

Though the idea of a tactical character in an action game still works, just look as Smash Bros as proof, Snake is often viewed as one of the best characters.

I like what they did with Raiden, they turned him from an annoying puppet, into a raspy voiced badass assassin. Which was one of the best things they did to his character. In my opinion, that fits more in a fighting action game than Snake does. I kinda wish Raiden was in Smash Bros now... Kinda...

In opinion, I feel the guest characters are more of a market selection rather than fan service. Big daddy is exceptional (bioshock infinite) but the fact that all the guest characters got bumped up to their latest versions and Raiden was picked over snake in reasoning of his upcoming game feels to me that superbot wanted to only throw in as much guests as possible to convince us to buy it.

Also, no Cloud. Kind of a downer since Final Fantasy 7 on the Playstation was claimed as one of the best RPG's ever.

Crash would have been to his mind over mutant appearance so rather than his crazy gadgets and weaponry he gets for beating cortex's army, he'll resort to using hijacked beasts as his options. That would have been a really cool idea

Spyro is a lost case. As ramsey said: it'll resort to using the skylanders option and it felt like they butchered his originality in that game so no thank you there

In short: it had me at the start but it lost me at the end. The roster feels slapped in and as much as we were expecting a full roster of our favorite playstation characters and a guest or two, it felt like Superbot tried to slap in any guest or modern playstation character possible to make playstation users go buy the game. Feel free to argue against me if you'd like regarding it but that's just my opinion with the roster
