You don't see this kind of thing often on message boards, not to mention the tag would look a bit awkward... But I can consider this, it beats spaces

Yeah, especially since consecutive spaces are removed by the editor.

Yeah, I don't want to have to copy and paste tabs every time I have a long post

So far I'm not having any luck since it looks like you can't use tabs in HTML the same way you would in a word doc. It might not be possible to do this in a very convenient way...

Can't you just make it that instead of coming up with [tab] when you press the button, you have ' ' when you press the button? (Look closely and you'll see that it's not a series of spaces). Alternatively, if you type in [tab] it gets replaced by ' ' after being posted?

Greg, this isn't a bad idea. I appreciate you trying to "code" it. In my opinion, this could be helpful for long posts or big announcements.

Well the first issue is that we can't use [tab] by itself, it must have a closing [/tab] tag to go with it. Plus HTML ignores extra spaces anyway, so I might have to do something cheap to simulate a working tab.

There's an HTML code for a tab/whitespace. I forgot what it was but it starts with an & I bet.

That's probably our only option, but technically tabs are not spaces don't forget

Don't lists have [*]? What's the problem with having another open ended tag?

Lists are different, the [*] is hard-coded into the forums

Just wondering though, does anyone actually use the list tags apart from me? Because if they did, they wouldn't really need tab or anything.

    Item 1
    Item 2

Yeah, but you can't list things one after another.
An example:
Code:
Item 1     Item 2

Cannot be achieved with

[*]Item 1 [*] Item 2

That's because lists don't work like that.

And you want stuff like that because?
