Just give it time Panda. Remember you'll attract NPCs of certain professions once you achieve certain goals.
Eg, Merchants start to show up when you have 50 Silver Coins.

And they all sell you things relating to their character, and at least one thing each that you can't craft or find anywhere else
Except for Nurse, who fully heals you if you pay 2 silver coin and 25 copper coins

Can NPC's live in the same building as long as you separate it into floors?

It worked for me I made an apartment system so they were easier to defend

i got all the npcs into a big rectangle and dug holes on the sides on the server so they're self-sufficient

I was going to do like a big apartment complex thing to make it easier for myself, but I wasn't enjoying that setup enough, so I've separated them into different houses now.

So, I finally managed to trap the guide in a pool of water. I go down and explore caves in a triumphant spirit for a little bit, go back up, and sure enough, the bastard is walking around the house when I get back.
FML.

He respawns inside his house when you launch the game again. I managed to trap him into a ditch but he respawned when I came back :/
