How easy he is to combo. He doesn't have any fast options to escape certain combos, such as Ryu's.

His recovery, although long distance, is predictable. This is mostly looking at his horizontal recovery, Flare Blitz being predictable and damaging to Charizard while leaving him open.

However, Fly isn't great either. It gives you armor during the ascent, but if you go in the direction you didn't want to go in, YOU'RE DEAD. Its similar to how Luigi's up special was in Melee, you get little to nor horizontal movement after you have performed the move. You get little movement behind you after Charizard finishes the move, thus he falls to his death.

His combo game is average cause he just mainly has down throw. He can use down tilt into grab, but that's mainly it.

He doesn't really have much of approach outside of flame thrower, but I try to space bair and nair to help with this.

Though after the buffs, I would see him as a mid tier character.

i don't know too much about Pokemon Trainer or competitive Brawl in general

i just know that Squirtle was the best of the Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon and that Ivysaur was the worst. Squirtle also received less knockback from fire attacks and Ivysaur received more. But Ivysaur resisted water attacks (which are very rare) and Squirtle was weak to grass attacks (which are exclusive to Ivysaur) which made it even worse.

Squirtle also had good frame data from what I remember and he was pretty small so he was a b**** to hit too

Most of them are due to the Pokémon Types and their unique bodies, abilities and mannnerisms. A lot of pokémon would work really well in Smash. Gengar would be hella sweet.
