A primary school in Weston-super-Mare has been criticised for banning Valentine cards to save pupils the "emotional trauma" of being rejected.

Totally unexpected for such a commercial event.

It appears that the faculty must have suffered many lonely Valentine's Days.

Oh for god's sake, these are the same kind of schools that don't allow tag because it encourages "victimisation", or where they tell the kid who came in last that he was "the last winner". I'd like it a lot more if one of these schools came out with something sensible, like banning Valentine's day because it's an empty holiday pushed into the foreground by commercial businesses in order to sell specific items at grossly inflated prices. Go ahead, go buy a dozen of roses, I bet you can buy ten dozens for the same money in four weeks.

Ugh, I hate it when schools do stupid things like this.
The kids are gonna get rejected at some stage, they need to get that while they can actually learn from it and not let it deflect from the ego-shield they'll mainly have in the teen stage.

Well, I thought you were supposed to hand a valentine out to everyone in the class. Weird other countries.

Here we just give a rose or a card to someone we like, or an actual present to a girlfriend, should we have one.

Exactly. I'd rather not get one in grades K-5 then in middle school, or high school.
Which fortunately is how it's been going

Then again, I hate Valentine's Day. It's so stupid.

At least in schools, people either go too far or not far enough. I've seen people buy super-expensive gifts for people they're not even dating, and of course there's that guy who completely forgets.
And somebody always wails for not getting one. ALWAYS in my class.

They should be teaching kids that things like getting rejected aren't a big deal instead of keeping them from happening.

Exactly, since it's going to happen in the future anyway.
Unless they're a hooker.
