Why's that?

For a HD remake almost nothing was changed.
ToS HD just nerfed spell canceling and removed some Jab locks.
TOS2 just had hats added iirc.

might as well b$%&# about other glitches being fixed
It pretty much ruined any potential solo/duet runs I was PLANNING on doing.
I'm going to stick with previous versions and completely skip over this game.

Seeing how Symphonia was my first TO game, I really can't support it knowing that it got b$%&# for aesthetics. This is just as bad as the Destiny slot machine port.

spell cancelling pretty much breaks the game on its own, but characters are very viable to do some amazing and interesting combos
if i wanted to mash a and a shoulder button all day i'd play FF13

You clearly don't understand that Spell Canceling gave the game a better metagame that could be expanded on and it was far from broken lol. Stop complaining about things you don't know about dude.

It doesn't break the game, lol. Do you watch solo runs?
And that's a pretty huge stretch. I'm not going to say characters aren't viable enough to perform well on their own, but that's a direct nerf to characters that didn't necessarily need a nerf in their meta.

Also, nice horribly put analogy.

I hope you do realize no one actually uses auto spell cancels in legit runs.

spell cancelling is still just as broken as it is in that video, if not then to a (very slightly) lesser degree
i'm sure spell cancelling wasn't intended and that's probably why it was fixed
if this were capcom's game everyone would be b**** about it by now

Lolno Spell Canceling is no where near broken and you assuming so alreadys shows you're ignorant about Symphonia's battle system and a lot of things aren't intended but messing with things that don't need to be messed with is stupid, considering it wasn't game breaking at all.

Sit down and take notes on how it is used here

No it isn't lmao.

See now you're jumping to two completely different aspects of a tech.
We're talking about spell canceling. You're losing the argument by shifting the topic right over to auto spell canceling.
My claim here is that spell canceling was a viable tool for characters that could perform it. It kept an interesting depth within the metagame and allowed for interesting takes on how it was used.

You should honestly step back and watch some of the people in the community before talking out of line.

Not every game needs free run.

Sheesh.

Free run would have made things far too easy and I liked the way Symphonia handled things and made it more strategic considering the way the battle system works.
I actually liked Symphonia battle system despite me hating Symphonia the most out of the series.

Well then someone teach me how to avoid attacks, because the backstep isnt much help. Or tell me that theres an upgrade that improves the distance. Since when i played it, i felt that there were a lot of attacks that i couldnt really do anything about, especially from bosses. Sure you could block, but i felt that that only gets you so far. And what are you supposed to do if they back you into a corner?

Maybe if there was a sidestep action? Im just saying for a 3D game, not having much options to evade attacks, seems a little too much to me. But thats me.

Maybe im just spoiled by the games that came after it, since i only got to play Symphonia for the first time recently. And yes, i have played the 2D ones, in case anyone was wondering.

For a lot of Spells you could simply avoid them by jumping.
Like Explode,Thunder Blade and ect they are all able to be avoided by Jumping not so sure about Judgement however. Side stepping is pretty damn useful honestly. When in corners you can simply jump(x2) out of it.

jumping is really awkward to dodge with though
it'd be nice to have free run instead of awkward around the 2D plane you get
the AI can do it, why can't we?

I guess it's a matter of preference I hate the idea of free run tbh.

Regal has a double jump as well. You can actually get away with a lot of stuff using jumping to your advantage.

The idea is that you find other ways around it rather than rely on the mechanic to avoid those attacks and whatnot (i.e. exploring other alternatives). Free running in Symphonia II came with its penalty, crit damage on the punish but once you get good at it this rarely happens in runs which is why I'm kind of against the whole "FREE RUN OR ELSE" bandwagon.

Vesperia takes the cake in fully abusing the hell out of this for an otg/mixup.

Destiny 2's Barbatos was actually intentionally made to teach players how to rely on mechanic intellect versus the usage of items in a pinch. If anything, the newer applications in these TO games seem to be adding their own mix to it and it's honestly interesting to see it develop with different teams working on the games each time around.
