I think fox is gonna be higher than falco on the tier list. His combos aren't as crazy as falco's but it seems he can still do the same things he could in 9b, and some things are now better. laser is actually a useful projectile since it always does 2%. where i think he is better than falco is killing. upsmash still kills hella early and the same can be said for uair. also fox actually has a recovery

edit: fox can also upthrow chain grab falco to ~30% but falco cant do the same :p

Interesting enough, Falco actually can chain-UpThrow Fox if he DI's away from the lasers. This may make for an interesting DI/no-DI mix-up, where you DI either left, right, or up with SDI to throw-off the Falco-player's reaction as he looks for a follow-up from Up-Throw.

So I imagine by the activity of this thread that every Fox player hopped to Falco like I did

I think maybe he needs a little touchup on his sprites, the body especially looks a wee bit dated

You can chain grab infinitely with :fox: on :bowser: and :donkeykong: by grab, d throw, shine, re grab, repeat.

So, Fox has been placed consistently really high on the tier lists. Is there any particular reason for that?

The pros Fox has shown me are good kill power, high speed, good recovery and great projectile

But his cons are susceptibility to edgeguard, combo food, victim to chaingrabs and not very good throws.

Now i am not a Fox player, although i have played him a bit, so i can't really say this is based on experience, just on first impressions.

Open to be corrected.

I think as the meta progresses Fox will fall, but right now he's certainly contending for #1. I think it's hard to overestimate how oppressive his neutral game is. Play a Fox that is proficient at dash-dancing (Gax is the current pro at this, SoldierSunday is the OG master of this), and the threat of SH nair can feel so dominating that it feels amazing to even land a single hit. A select few characters can really combat Fox in neutral (Tails, Goku, Samus, Falco), but a lot of characters can't put out hitboxes quickly enough to meet aggressive rushdown, and many of the characters that can do that can't handle a more defensive style (Puff is the classic example: destroys rushdown neutral, but can't beat laser camping).

I also think he benefits a lot from the fact that the Fox meta is very well-developed: Melee has been out for longer than I've been alive, and 9b Fox is very similar and has been around for years. On the other hand, characters like Falco are completely new (Melee Falco is IMO more different from SSF2 Falco than Melee Fox to SSF2 Fox), and so at most you can have a couple months of practice at edgeguarding and comboing Fox as Falco. You also have to figure out the neutral game from scratch. Look at PM: Fox was top-tier almost every version tier list, no matter what nerfs or buffs chars got: people like M2K could just play Fox in PM, use 15 years of metagame development, and then win games.
