I honestly think it's crazy that people think a character from a new untested IP that might not have even been publicly announced at the time SM4SH started development has a shot in the game

So Mewtwo deconfirmed?
The only thing giving Mewtwo a shot is his appearance in X and Y and that wasn't announced until after Sm4sh started development.

Mewtwo might be probable, but not him with his Mega Evolutions? He has been requested a lot since he didn't return for Brawl.

Zoroark may have a better chance, but I still feel X/Y will be more focused to have some representation (Pokeballs, Stage, or maybe a character even).

This makes me feel really anxious waiting the next character now. Only 3 newcomers and so many veterans. It makes me feel like the majority of secret characters will be newcomers, and we might not know who those characters are until the game's release.

The mental gymnastics you'd have to do to justify that is astounding

Did you know that Mewtwo has been around for seventeen years and is among the most popular characters in his franchise?
Did you know that an entirely new game and a sequel to a long running and extremely popular franchise are actually two very different things?
Did you know that Pokemon X/Y has probably been in development for as long as or longer than SM4SH, and that since they're both owned by Nintendo, Sakurai would have access to information about the game (such as "we're bringing Mewtwo back")?

"But you said Wonderful Joe couldn't get in because W101 hadn't been announced!!"
Which is only relevant because it's a new game. Since it hadn't been announced there was no way to get a feel for the public opinion of the character (unlike Mewtwo, who has been popular for about seventeen years now)
