Yeah, I agree. Even from the get go.

My party always consisted of Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris. It would have been Cait Sith, Tifa and Aeris, but you can't switch Cloud out.

The only character that I wasn't crazy for was Cid, but even then I appreciate his character.

Cloud/Tifa/Cid was my team, Cid's got mad mop skills.

Learn card mod. Get Diablos. Use card mod to grind mobs without getting exp. learn encounter-none. Go triple triad'ing. One-hit final boss because everything scales to your level.

Disk 3, the breakdown. After that he kinda shuts up about it. Still had a better reason for his asocial behavior than Squall, though. Oh, wait, right, they had a negative way of looking at life, so they must be emo.

nah the difference is that cloud basically crams his razors down your throat while squall is just a sad bro

No he doesn't! They introduced his situation in a way that made you empathize with him. It's not like he was a sadsack from disk 1.

Squall was a complete and utter insensitive prick at the beginning of the game. And the "I stood outside in the rain waiting for my sister to come back to the orphanage" explanation doesn't sit as well with me as the "my hometown got burned down, I was beaten to an inch of my life by a momma's boy that was compensating for something, kept in a test tube for two years, my entire body and mind getting f*** up due to the poisons being pumped into me, to the point where I believed that I was leading my dead friend's life." on my scale of "good reasons for the protagonist to be mentally f*** up".

I personally prefer the troubled protagonist over the optimistic ones such as Zidane, and Tidus. Doesnt mean i dont like those characters, they are just more annoying to me than the sad troubled archetype.
