I think he's serious. In the game, curly loses her memory at one point. To restore it she has to eat a mushroom, which happens to be a character...Ma pignon is it's name I believe. I doubt restoring her memory would be helpful though. In the game after she gets her memories back she says Quotes name and gives him an item. I assume the GMs wanted this situation to act in a similar manner, but quote is dead now....
