Shovel Knight is a good game yes, but there's absolutely no way anyone can say legit that he deserves a spot like Mega Man, Pac-Man and Sonic did. Indie characters are not icons.

He's popular in the US right now yes but that doesn't mean he will be as popular in the future. Shovel Knight isn't even out in Japan yet. And no, the whole "marth and roy melee" argument doesn't work because they were originally japan exclusives, then later decided to be international. Plus, as we know Takamaru was on the list as a possible playable character at one point, but was removed due to unfamiliarity.

Why would Sakurai add a character who's overhyped in the US alone after removing Takamaru. It'd make no sense. No indie characters. The game stupidly enough already gets a lot of flack for having 3rd party so why add fuel to the fire with non-recognizable characters.

Icons for what, icons are anything popular doesn't mean they deserve it or are liked, icons are just reconize popular things/places/people.

Popularity isn't the only factor that decides who gets in Smash Bros. and who doesnt though. Ridley is popular and he will never be playable for example. There are other factors.

That being said I'm kinda on the fence regarding Shovel Knight myself, but I would like to see him. Nintendo is doing a lot to support indie developers as well (even in Smash Bros., what with the commander video trophy).

My personal call for next DLC is Wolf. He is the most requested character in Japan apparently

To be honest I can totally see them releasing Wolf as Smash DLC when Star Fox Zero is released.

Do you reckon British Wolf from Star Fox 64, Non-British Wolf from every game since, or Whatever-accent-is-in-Star-Fox-Zero Wolf?

Well just between you and me; I'm super into British accents. Like, more than a bit. So I'd go with that.

The "new" actors for Fox and Falco are quite bad. Them being in 64 doesn't change that

I liked Brawl Wolf, but I'm sure they'll go for his 64 actor too

He's my most wanted character though, as far as veterans go. Really surprised f*** Roy got in before him, but I'm pretty confident he'll get in soon

My gripe with Shovel Knight is that in the big picture, there's nothing connecting it with Nintendo. The game's available on every modern console.

speaking of Roy
one thing i hate about Roy and Sheik is that they have new idle poses but pretty much every animation they have doesn't account for it. if you do an attack with Roy, he goes back to Marth's pose for a second, and then moves his hand back up. if you do an attack with Sheik, she goes back to her Brawl pose, then moves her hands back up.

you get a similar thing if you mod Brawl and don't make the end of an animation match the idle pose. i had an idle stance for Link that had his hand down to his side. so if you jumped up and landed, his hand would be positioned as if he had a shield, then quickly correct itself and put it down to his side. you can see it at around the one minute mark here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYm8LM59x_o
