It makes a difference because no character (save Bowser, but his was due to having a different stance) has ever made a significant change in height across the series. Additionally, most Smash Bros characters are inaccurate to their height from their own games, such as Olimar being actually visible to the characters, let alone large enough to put up a fight.

That's exactly the problem I've been seeing with SSB4, speculating is big issue and that's why there hasn't been any good speculation about this game since it first was announced, two of the three newcomers were totally unexpected. YouTube videos, forums discussion, blog entries, all have the same damned speculated characters including Ridley, Little Mac, Black Shadow and so on, when people should remember that Sakurai is unexpected. This, alongside possible copyright issues, is the sole reason [one of] the most requested characters in Smash history, Geno, hasn't been added into the game, he is currently so overexpected his inclusion wouldn't be a big surprise. It would be a relief but not a surprise.

I don't see a problem with Ridley being playable in Smash 4, size shouldn't even be an issue.

If he actually makes the roster, hopefully he's done good enough to please most.

Size is an issue with Ridley, though. He only looks good if he's big.
