I think Saki should at least be considered. Now I'm not asking for him to be in the game (I'm again indifferent on the matter since I'm not familiar with the character), but I think he does have a large fanbase which is, if I recall correctly, the reason he became an assist in Brawl.
Lets not forget, there are other characters already playable that come from obscure titles, at least as far as the average gamer is concerned. I was unfamiliar with Ness, Ice Climbers, and Game & Watch before Brawl came out. I'm not going to count the Fire Emblem characters for obvious reasons.

That new ray gun is pretty awesome, wonder if they'll also change the laser bullets, since it went from a green scheme to a red.
Regarding Saki, I really would love to have him in. Sin and Punishment is a pretty fun piece of work, but I'm not getting my hopes too high. He doesn't strike me as a high priority to Nintendo... Though I suppose I wouldn't have guessed he'd be an assist trophy either, so there's that...
And you could make a seriously kick a** Sin and Punishment stage with his inclusion too...
