Not gonna lie, Lucario being announced pretty much hit the nail in the coffin for me. There is little to nothing about this game that's showing me it's new enough to pay 60 bucks for the wii u version. The 3DS one however I will be picking up since a portable smash bros is a necessity for me, the wii u one is very very disappointing from what I'm seeing so far.

To people that are getting disappointed, let me put it this way. This has been theorized before, but maybe you haven't heard it.
I'll save you the big lists, but when Brawl was released, we already knew about all the starter characters, plus Sonic and Snake. The only new characters to discover were the secret ones. We discovered the following: -Ness, Jigglypuff and Lucario -- who were not a surprise, as they had been leaked a little while before -Luigi, Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, and Marth -- who were not a surprise, since nobody expected these characters to be removed -Falco and Mr. Game & Watch -- who were likely surprising to some, as I could see the arguments for them being removed -Wolf -- who was criticized heavily for his similarities to Fox (Don't try to pretend the Landmaster didn't disappoint you heavily) -Toon Link -- who is a clone (don't, this isn't the time for that argument) -R.O.B.
After the game released, there was only one really new, surprising, original character, and he was the "joke" character (if you will). This was very disappointing for a lot of people and left a bad taste in their mouths.
The reason it happened is because Sakurai decided to focus on the pre-launch rather than the post-launch - Before Brawl was released, 26 characters were shown, of which 12 were newcomers. That's almost half, you know. And the pre-launch was EXCITING AS f*** because HOLY s*** ALL THESE NEW CHARACTERS DAMN
But imagine if instead of doing what they did, they revealed Luigi, Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, Marth, and Jigglypuff before launch. Everybody knew those five would be back, so why skirt around it? Instead, they made five newcomers secret characters (any five you like) and didn't reveal them before launch. No matter which five you pick, the post-launch would've then become MUCH more exciting, especially if they hid some of the more interesting characters like Olimar or Pokemon Trainer.
I think with this game Sakurai is focusing on the post-launch. The more interesting newcomers (and perhaps most surprising veterans) are hidden behind a wall, with only a few newcomers and all the obvious veterans being shown before launch. It doesn't boost the hype as much as Brawl, but it will make the release ultimately a lot more satisfying. He's already shown two of the five I mentioned above, after all.
To be fair, I could be wrong and the game could be as lackluster as you fear. But have some more faith in Sakurai, that man is an evil genius. Don't put the game down for stupid reasons when you have no idea what his endgame is.
tl;dr: don't be stupid

Thank you for saying that; this needed to be told. Who do guys think will be the next Star Fox character joining the roster?

If Star Fox is given another rep, Krystal.
However, realistically speaking, due to the lack of a new Star Fox game and criticisms of the entire Star Fox cast in the last game, I don't see a newcomer but more time being spent making Fox, Falco, and Wolf unique from each other.

Wait! are there still people who thinks Wolf is similar (a.k.a. a clone) to Fox? now I see where the problem with the game is.

Wolf is much more different than people give him credit for. They see specials based off of Fox (even though they have different functions for the most part) and the same final smash and people lose their minds. To even call them similar is pushing it, really.

One problem with that confusion was calling some moves similar like their neutral special being called "Blaster", Wolf's version should've been called Bayonet or a matter like that. Wolf has completely different neutral attacks.

The specials are really a characters most heavily defining moves I think similar is more than fair, especially since all of his specials are "Fox, but..." moves
