Since the maximum number of people is 13... hmmm...

It doesn't really matter which 2 stools are chosen. I mean, say you choose 1 and 25. The first person sits down at 1. The next person decides to sit at 4. Then the next at 7. That doesn't work out, no one said they have to sit with one stool inbetween.

"everyone always sits as far as possible from the other members"

Say you choose 1 and 25. The first person would sit at 1, the other would sit at 25. Then, the pattern would follow about as so.

1, 25, 11, 18, 6, 21, 9, 3.. already, as you can see, nobody can sit at seats 4 or 5, because number 3 and 6 are taken. The people do have to be arranged one seat apart for every person because only by doing that, would Jim get the most people to purchase items at his bar. Your answer is wrong.

Anyone else want to try?

EDIT: And Happyland, if you think your post was an answer to the question, then no.. it did not state the answer to the question. The question was "The first person to sit at the bar has to sit at one of two particular stools. Where should Jim make the places for the two particular stools?".

9 or 15 :aha:

The whole list is: (it doesn't matter which one starts so I''ll start with 9 coz it's easier)

9, 25, 17/1 (they're the same difference), 5/13/21 (they're the same difference), 3/7/11/15/19/23 (they're the same difference)

The Antisocial Club meets every few weeks at Jim's Bar. Since they are so antisocial, however, everyone always sits as far as possible from the other members and no one ever sits right next to another member. Because of this, the 25-stool bar is almost always less than half full and unfortunately for Jim the members that don't sit at the bar don't order anything. Jim, however, is pretty smart and makes up a new rule: The first person to sit at the bar has to sit at one of two particular stools. If this happens, then the maximum number of members will sit at the bar. Which stools must be chosen? Assume the stools are numbered 1 to 25 and are arranged in a straight line.

Assuming that an odd # of the antisocial club sits at the bar, it would need to be either #2 or #24.
