I always found Heroes to be leagues above either of the Adventure games, at least in concept. Seeing a refinement of its one hit wonder formula using today's tech I believe would produce something wonderful

yeah heroes was good in places. ruined by relying way too much on grinding mechanics that just straight up do not work properly sometimes and making you play it all four times for the true ending
the other characters are the worst parts of the other 3d sonic games but at least they're actually different lol

consider this:
knuckles 3d platforming game
his levels were a** in adventure 1 and 2 cause of being tied to digging and searching for emerald shards and that wasn't very fun (specially with SA2's level design)
however one thing i definitely can say about knux
his levels control wonderfully and would actually be great for a 3d platforming game or something
also about unleashed
I personally don't like the boost formula but it works good enough for sonic tbh
I sometimes wish secondary characters got their own spin-off games like how shadow the hedgehog did, there's potential for that somewhere and i wish that happened
and that also means sonic's games wouldn't have the issue of alienating people with the multiple playstyles thing that adventure 1, 2 and sonic 06 had that didn't work out good, so they can focus on boost only or whatever way they want sonic games to exist

Gonna be real you go back and play 3&K and you realise Mania isn't even a factor, the classic levels always sucked

I just came back from CD, there was only one had zone. Wacky Workbench. The rest were all amazing. 'Specially Quartz Quadrant and Stardust Speedway.

Collision Chaos was good, but I couldn't even BEAT the Act 3 boss. It's difficult to reach Dr. Eggman in a pinball like boss arena.
