Ok, here's how this is going to go down. This topic is just for all the new guys that wants/trying to get into spriting/animating, so I thought it be nice if the community could provide some questions and answers.

All you have to do is post a simple question that's asked alot when it comes to spriting/animating, and then prove a simple answer. Doesn't sound too hard does it? Alright, lets get started!

Frequently Asked Questions about Spriting and Animating: show
Q: What program would be best to use for spriting?
A: MS Paint, Fireworks, Photoshop.

Q: How do I make a background transparent in Paint?
A: You can't, you'll have to use Photoshop or something else.

Q: Well then how do you make backgrounds transparent in Photoshop?
A: 1) Open your sprite in Photoshop
2) Take the layer from the background
2) Select the Magic Wand tool
3) Click on Background
4) Press "Delete"
5) Done.

Q: You ruined my sprite!!!
A: No, I didn't, most likely you had the background have the same color as a color in the sprite. Change the background color to a color unused in the sprites, and try again.

Q: How do you know if an animation is correctly aligned?
A: Well, you have to check to see if the movement is reasonable and watch out for stray pixels(Don't confuse my definition of stray pixels for motion blurs.); animations stay in place. Remember that.

Q: I have paint open now what do I do?
A: 1) Grab a sprite from the internet.
2) Copy paste, (CTRL+C, CTRL+V), into paint.
3) If pose is desirable, make the sprite hollow, make it white, but leaving the outline.
4) If not, use the sprite as a height reference, and draw a stickman.
5) Draw clothes on it.
6) Submit on MG, get criticism
7) Improve.
8) Draw the small things (Mainly facial things and logos.)
9) Submit on MG

Q: What save format is the best for quality?
A: PNG or BMP; DON'T DO JPG. EVER. Even if someone is holding a gun to your head.

Q: In JUS style, how many colours should you use for shading?
A: No less than three, no more than four. Notable exception: Hair may have four colors PLUS white.

Q: I've got my sprites, now how do I animate them?
A: Get Beneton Movie GIF.

Q: Where do I get Beneton?
A: http://www.benetonsoftware.com/Beneton_Movie_GIF.php

Q: What other programs are good for spriting?
A: Photoshop and Graphics Gale are also good spriting programs.

How do I sprite, ZI?

A: Well, you open paint and just try! You should start by editing other sprites until you get the hang of it.

I personally sprite with Photoshop, not Fireworks or Paint. I wouldn't have it any other way.
