INCONCLUSIVE

Notes: The Aperture Science Hand-held Portal Device has been tested in a variety of circumstances. None of these tests, however, have had conclusive results, nor will they until the device is tested in a real life environment. The obstacles test subjects faced in previous tests are completely irrelevant to everyday life. Therefore, it has been decided that a new test shall be orchestrated. A fight between two test subjects using the portal gun. Not only will this demonstrate the resourcefulness of the participants under stress, but the effects of portals people as well. It goes without saying that the victor will receive cake as a prize. Failure will result in an unsatisfactory mark on the loser's test record, followed by death. Unfortunately there is a shortage of test subjects. We will have to recruit.

Hello and again welcome to the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center. We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one. Your specimen has been processed and we are now ready to begin the test proper. Before we start, however, keep in mind that although fun and learning are the primary goals of the enrichment center activities, serious injuries may occur.

A concealed doors in the floors of each chamber opened, out of which rose two identical portal devices on pedestals.

You are now in possession of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. With it, you can create your own portals. These inter-dimensional gates have proven to be completely safe. The device, however, has not. Do not touch the operational end of the device. Do not look directly at the operational end of the device. The portal will open in 3... 2... 1...

Portals opened in each of the chambers, both leading to the same large test room. Multiple cameras were mounted on the walls. Hanging from the ceilings were multiple cube dispensers. The floor was treacherous, filled with a variety of obstacles and a few unstationary scaffolds. Descending spiked surfaces were attached to the ceiling in various places, along with some high-energy pellet generators. There were many turrets as well. Other rooms featuring similar attributes branched off from here.
Scrawled on the walls multiple times were the words 'The cake is a lie'.

Today's test will be a battle to the death. The match will begin in one minute. Any offensive actions before that time will result in immediate disqualification and an unsatisfactory mark on your test record, followed by death. Good luck, and goodbye.

A clock hanging from the wall began to count down.

"Death? Hm...
Nothing personal, but I'd rather survive.
By the way, what's your name?"

Lank just stared into the expanse of the room. Portals, eh? How would you kill someone with a portal? But then, this is why I'm here. This technology may prove useful. Tightening his face as he thought of how painful the turret, would be, Lank muttered a "Lank", and looked down at the device in his hand. Don't look at the device's end, right? Scratching his suit, Lank fired experimentally at a wall. A circle rimmed with a bright orange circle was projected on the wall.

He instantly formed plans, mostly regarding dropping stuff on his opponent.
"Cool. I'm Seth. You seem like a nice guy, and my boss forbids me from killing people. If there was a way to escape, I would, but I'm not seeing one. Keep your eyes open, though."

OOC: Sorry, no more openings. You'll be first in line next time.

Do not harbor such thoughts. Escape is impossible. Make no attempt to do so. The test will commence in 30 seconds.

Seth starts aiming for the perfect shot as the timer counts down.
"Too late, the thoughts have already been harbored."

IC: "Uh huh." whispered Lank. "I'm wondering, do those turrets shoot via motion, heat, or what? and just how accurate are they?" Turning his eyes to Seth, he sees where Seth is aiming at. I'll hafta be sure to stay outta his way, eh? And what does he mean about an exit? A boon, or a backstab? "Man, can't trust no-one in the world. I'm not even sure how I ended up in here." Lank said, combing his hair to one side, out of his face.

But I'm going to get some answers.

Instantly, Seth shifts over and shoots a portal above a turret he wasn't aiming at before, and another portal under a block.
Guess what happens!

Quickly picking up, Lank fires a portal directly underneath the turret to be smashed. Knowing the cube would fall through any second now, Lank applied another portal above a second turret, adjacent to the previous one. "Now we're vandalizing, no?"
