yeah i used to know someone that identified as a 'satanist' and i get it isnt magic and sacrificing babies but he was very serious about the fact that it represented satan as a higher power and a guide and being 'athiestic' would contradict that very point

They just like the ideas of satanism without all the non-secular stuff, since it is a different thing it is allowed to contradict that point as it become moot, they just like the ideology, not deities.

Just because satanists are serious about worshipping Satan doesn't change the fact that atheistic satanists just like the ideas and ideas only that satanism offers, and because of it contradicting with other satanists it branches off into it's own thing, like how three are many subcategories of Christians and stuff.

They are good values,(true) Satanism isn't about doing evil things, most Satanic values are:

1. Do what you want to do in life and be happy with doing what you want
2. Follow the law
3. Don't be a dick
4. Since you make yourself happy in life go make others happy, too, minus people you don't like/care for screw them

you're pretty much your own god
