you hear about all those big school shootings and things that happened in the past and they're terrible but it's always been hard to think about the killer as a human being who is doing those terrible things. but now that the internet and social media is as huge and widespread at it is, people like elliot rodger have a very real and very disturbing internet footprint. i mean he's got a youtube channel, various online forum posts with some equally disturbing content, and a f*** 150 page manifesto about his life that he wrote. it's not just like this stuff appeared one day, he's this real guy who existed and the internet lets us see and understand that in a way we never really have been able to for past incidents along these lines. it's just a really creepy and surreal thing to think about.
