Alright alright, let me elaborate on that without spoiling anything about the story.

The new dungeon exploration system is definitely one of the selling points of the game. The improved stealth mechanics with their flashy animations really add a nice stylish touch, so it's no longer just "walk behind Shadow and stab it up the a**". The designs for each of the palaces are vibrant and colorful, and they have unique elements of platforming, puzzles and traps so it doesn't feel like you're walking down an endless hallway all the time.

Combat is also vastly improved, with how they brought back the Negotiation system (as well as some demons and elemental affinities) from the mainstream SMT games and the new UI allowing for faster paced action (aka no more cycling through menus. Was never a big issue for me in the first place but oh well). They also did a pretty good job with sticking to the whole "gentlemanly crime" theme, what with the way demons are fused and the tarot cards being based on the French deck rather than the English ones.

I'm also really glad they decided to throw in some open world mechanics in there, which allowed more freedom for you to do what you want with your daily life (e.g work part time jobs, actually play actual games when you select the videogame option, etc). These spare time activities are now actually pretty damn fun to do, and I had a blast exploring the bustling metropolis that is Toyko. Each section of the city feels completely different to the other, and coupled with the slick transitions it makes for a beautiful experience.
Also I just love the SNS system with how your teammates continuously spam text messages in your little group chat thingie. Really fits in with the way modern teenagers are. Social Links Confidants are more or less the same however, just that you get more benefits from banging chicks than before.

Shoji Meguro does it again with his acid jazz goodness; the hard rock is nice but it's nothing too new. The character design and art is pretty good, a bit reminiscent of Catherine's imo. I played the Japanese version so I dunno how good the English VAs are, but I hope they're alright.

In short, probably the best JRPG I have ever played. Not flawless, but bloody damn good.

i already knew i was going to play with the japanese voices on as soon as they were announced for the english version, but i completely gave up on even trying the english dub when they couldn't even pronounce Sakamoto properly

the game's easy anyways though, you could run a party of morgana/yusuke/haru and still do perfectly fine

My party usually consisted of Ryuji, Makoto and Morgana/Yusuke.
And yeah no the game was alot easier than I thought it'd be, even Caroline and Justine weren't terribly hard to beat compared to the Megidolaon massacre that is Elizabeth.

so I finally beat the game and I have to say that summoning Satan to shoot God in the face in order to save Christmas makes for a 10/10 last boss. shame the music wasn't as good as P3/P4 for that, but the rest of the OST (especially Rivers in the Desert) makes up for it.

great game, easily the best in the (sub)series. just hope the next one doesn't take another 8 years lmao
