IGN is doing a month-long feature on Rock Band 4, starting with today's article focused on new features. Their idea is to allow players to be more creative/expressive with the game. We've got our first screenshots and new info below:




News:
-New visual style reminiscient of The Beatles Rock Band
-Focus on improvisation and personal touches
-The drummer can count in the band at the start of the song
-Open drum fills have been replaced with randomly chosen fills -- the game will choose one of several fills that fits the genre and difficulty for you to play rather than outright improvisation (note: the improv could be turned off for accurate charts in RB3; I suspect it will be the same here)
-Random drum fills are back-compatible with all existing songs
-Vocal harmonies officially super duper confirmed
-Vocal harmonies will be added retroactively to pre-RB3 songs (Note: this is a community effort being made official, which is cool as hell)
-Freeform vocal melodies: Designed to allow some creativity, and "color outside the lines" -- basically meaning the game will be less harsh about you singing exactly the same note at exactly the same time as the singer
-Freeform vocals are scored differently than standard ones
-Rock Band Stage Kit compatibility confirmed (HYYYPE)

Some notes for those who don't want to watch it:
-the new guitar is mostly small improvements, quieter buttons, more responsive strum, etc.
-same for drums, mostly small improvements. They did confirm a new cymbal kit is being made and that old cymbal kits will be compatible with the new drums.
-the new mic can take being yelled at better so there will be less distortion. Old mics are compatible with RB4 if you don't want the new one.

i want them to figure out a way to chart death growls instead of being s*** like they were before

how would you prefer?

they aren't a pitch so they can't be charted like one

I don't know, maybe some sort of tutorial for different growls/screams

but the game needs a way to detect that's what you're doing

the mic only detects pitch

and ultimately it would only work for a relatively small subset of the game's songs anyway

js there's really not a good solution, they'll probably have to stick with that they've got

yeah i know, it's such a disappointment though
virtually every metal song has instrumental parts that would be great to play, but then the vocals...

well umm I think youll find its rock band not metal band....................... because metal band would be Dumb LOL!!

my dream of playing this song will probably never be realized though
