After further deliberation, Sky Sanctuary Zone is once again a counterpick.

Skylar will update the OP to reflect this shortly. If you have any objections, speak now.

I'll add a rationale: there's really nothing that makes this stage ban-worthy any more. The multishine pseudo-infinite can be SDI'ed out of without too much trouble, having low ceilings is not bannable, and there's really no problem with the side blast zones or the platform layout.

The other criterion to consider is whether this stage adds diversity. The answer is clearly yes. SSZ changes how a lot of characters fight, but it doesn't do so in a terribly unfair way. The unique platform layout means that the stagelist will hopefully become more diverse when this is added.

In short, we jumped the gun and made a mistake.

Criticisms, when you can argue for them sensibly and convincingly, actually are welcome. Because sometimes, we mess up.

Fair enough re:3DS, I just wasn't expecting you guys to post the list, have a section about "stages that didn't make it" and then exclude 3DS :pikachu:

How do the ever-so-slightly higher walls make SSZ objectively worse? It didn't gain infinites and its functionally identical to 9b with respect to grounded movement. All of its features are static, which means that players can play around them since the behaviour is consistent (not to mention, as Zalo pointed out, that at least SSZ's behaviour with respect to its weird sides is consistent on both sides. Saturn Valley's side slants behave differently!) I contend that it should retain its counterpick status.

I don't think 3DS should be legal because the bottom is flat and easy to get stuck under me and my roommate nicknamed this getting 3DSed and you don't have that problem with FD or Waiting Room but hey we could just suck and Jungle Hijinx needs to come back and I like the Idea of a big stage list I fell like the more stages the merrier.

Dracula's Castle with hazards on is my fave but it definitely causes desyncs at the moment. Most stage hazards don't often cause desyncs, but this one absolutely does.

Dreamland just feels like a second [or third] Battlefield without hazards. Where's my "Battlefield Clause" at?

...

Also, any thoughts on Palutena's Shrine?

In my opinion, while it does look to have a Cave of Life, this can be remedied by simply restricting the stage to the top platforms to make it a Counterpick [though, I'll never understand why the devs didn't just remove the cave on the hazardless version].

Its kinda hard to enforce such a rule. If your opponent hits you in that place, should you arbitrarily lose a stock? What about "accidentally" tethering to the offstage platforms? And even if we did all that and it all went without issues (which it wont, I guarantee you that), we would simply end up with yet another FD. Thats prolly the reason why hazards dont do anything imo.

If we need to restrict a certain part of the level to make it a counterpick then its not worth having on the stagelist at all
