No, I mean their own unit. There are screens showing them having their own unit moveset like other team units. It's just they've only been shown as assists in trailers for some reason.

Where is that proof? I see no site that claims such a thing, i'm pretty sure if they are shown only as assisting then they are a solo unit. Edit: Nevermind i found proof to back up my claim so you don't need to prove yours.

An assist is still activated, and they've still got moves like other units so yes they are playable. Let it go dude.

They all play the same lmfao assist characters are playable. You press a button to activate a move exaclty like an unit, you press a button to activate a move. Assist units are still playable character no matter how you see it. Assist trophies in smash are not playable character because you can't do jack s*** with them.

Here's the eshop demo that released a few days ago in Japan.
So far looks mostly the same as the first game. Only major differences are the hud being more clear as to what is what, and they definitely weren't kidding when they said they would be lowering enemy health. These enemies are a complete joke compared to the first game.
