To tell you the truth, I actually didn't like Colours that much.
The wisps were pretty fun and a nice addition. It's mostly the fact that in order to get S ranks, it's most effective to just spam wisp abilities than just speeding through the stage; time isn't as much of a factor. There's also the fact that Super Sonic is a little useless in the game...

I did like Unleashed (PS3 version), though. I guess I like blazing through the levels more than having to slow down to get enough points for a good rank.

Also, I'm pretty sure SEGA's been doing fine. Haven't these "hated" Sonic games had pretty high sales?

Sales != Good Game and Good Game != Sales.

But still, most of the modern Sonic games that get flak aren't really the unholy abominations that people claim they are. Sometimes there are legitimate concerns, but they're often overexaggerated. And the amazing handheld games are often conveniently taken out of the equation when discussing Sonic's games. In my opinion, the only modern Sonic games that are truly deserving of all the hatred is Sonic 2006, Black Knight, and Zero Gravity. The rest I think are pretty fun, even though they may not be AAA perfect score Game of the Year titles. They are good games, although not outstanding. It's possible to have loads of fun.

Outstanding is what Sonic needs, though, and Generations seems like it's going to deliver on that front. If they don't screw up. They seem to have the Rush/Unleashed Daytime gameplay (my personal favorite) down to a T, so there's not going to be much issue with that. The real challenge is going to be emulating Classic Sonic's gameplay, especially since that side of the fanbase is considerably more difficult to please. I don't think they'll be happy unless it's exact. (Although, who can blame them, when fan projects like the Sonic Worlds engine and Sonic Fan Remix did a better job at classic physics than Sonic 4 did.) But if they succeed, they'll finally have a game where there's something for everyone. (Well, almost. They're leaving out the "third pillar" of main Sonic gameplay by not having an Adventure series gameplay mode, but I don't care. No matter what they do, the fanbase is still going to have more segments than 50 documents that just went through the finest paper shredders.)

My only real gripes so far is the lack of other playable characters. Which I guess makes sense for this game, since Sonic is really the only one who has a distinctive Classic and Modern gameplay style that would fit in the context of this game. I suppose arguably Tails and Knuckles would qualify, but you can't exactly go around the classic stages in a mech, and nobody wants to do treasure hunting. But they could always just do new gameplay styles....

They have rules about this.

They didn't. Sega needs to learn not to give half-assed levels. Only acts 1 and 2 from each zone in that game were any good, the rest felt tacked on and short, and the bosses sucked.

Also, it may just be me, but I really don't like the daytime Unleashed-style levels of running down a straight path. I'm one of the few who actually preferred the night levels, if it weren't for the battles every 5 seconds...

I other words you like enviromental puzzles and plat forming, I am not a huge fan of either but it atleast entertains me.

That stuff wasn't ever really what Sonic is about(platforming actually, quite, but only back at the classics), Unleashed night stages, if you ask me, are just a rip off of God of War.

I finished the first boss in a few seconds.
I didn't think I took it out, but then when the results screen came up...

Oh, and the "Stay too long and you get no score" was an idiotic thing to put in there. I can understand if it's something like 9 minutes, but if you're to die after you can't gain any score, you will always have 0 score.

Mario & Sonic at the 2012 London games was just announced. Personally, I just wish they did something other than the Olympics.

I'm a little confused... They promise 50+ games, but including all variations there are only 38 diciplines in the 2012 Olympics...

I never really even cared about the Olympic event gamess, I mean even from the trailer I knew it would be just (almost) the same as that Beijin 2010 Olympis game for the Wii plus Sonic and Mario chars.

Ok, so it is possible to beat Sonic in a foot race; Sonic can swim; Tails can beat Mario, Big, Vector, Shadow, and Knux at chuckpot throw; and Bowser can get a good score at long jump. Seriously, SST made more sense than that.

"London Games"?

That's new, and tiring at the same time. I've grown rather bored of the Olympics. Mecha Sonic was cool and all, but...
