Anyhow, tournament is starting. Let's see how the absence of Jiggs affects the meta.

I also wanted to talk a bit about how some of the balance changes that Beta has may change things up. Proto released a dev blog yesterday talking about some of the changes the dev team's been working on: http://mcleodgaming.com/2016/03/ssf2-de ... -balancing

From this, I think that the Chibi CPU will improve significantly because of the new Up B if he uses it as much as he uses his current Up B now. His viability may also rely on how good the new U-air is, since that is currently the Chibi CPU's go-to kill move.

It's hard to tell where Zelda will end up in Beta. It'll depend on how her AI has changed. The Smash 4-esque Up B will be good for her for sure, but the nerfs to B-air and Din's Fire could also be impactful.

I can definitely see Fox being worse since he relies on his U-throw -> U-air a lot currently, but the AI will probably changed to make up for that, so he could improve in other areas, like not fast-falling aerials off the edge so much. I don't see the changes to Marth, Naruto and DK listed as particularly detrimental towards their CPUs.

Anyway, I'll report on the results for the first couple rounds of the tournament soon and upload the replays for them either in this post or the next.

Finished Rounds 1-2 and Losers Round 1. Pretty good tournament so far. Badcon's leading with predictions by a single point atm. Very impressed with his Yoshi and Wario predictions.

Losers Rounds 2-3 and Winners Quarters will be next. Replays for the first 3 rounds are attached to this post.

Marth is dumb. So salty about Yoshi vs Marth. Yoshi had the 2-0, but Marth...ugh

Anyhow, Winners Quarters and Losers Rounds 3-4 complete! Exciting tournament so far with a lot of upsets! 3 of the 4 non-Jiggs top tiers are in the Losers Bracket with Black Mage beating Peach, Fox beating Black Mage and Ness beating Bomberman (as I sort of predicted). Either Yoshi or Ichigo will make Top 8 for the first time and Samus is on a mission to get out of bottom tier with victories over Megaman, Pikachu and, most surprising of all, Tails! The Jiggs ban may be showing its effects.

Winners Semis and Losers Rounds 4 and 5 will be next.

We're in Top 6 now. Yoshi and Naruto make their first top 8 appearances and Yoshi proves to be able to contend with Black Mage quite well (though the games where BM won were JV2 stocks). Bomberman also gets his lowest placing so far at 9th with his loss to Peach.

For next update it is time to see who will win in Winners Finals between Melee's best and Melee's worst (Fox top 3 hype!). Losers Quarters and Semis will also be next.

Just decided to finish the whole thing up. Black Mage comes back from Losers Bracket to take the tournament 4-1 over Kirby (and beats the character who sent him into Losers in the first place)! I think that we'll probably do Jiggs banned tournaments every other singles tournament or so (probably a bit less frequently than that...Jigglypuff still needs her results). This was a good tournament with breakout performances from Fox, Yoshi and Samus.

For the next tournament, I'm thinking Turbo Heavy. I'll update this post with the Challonge bracket once I get that ready.

Spreadsheet is updated with this results from this tournament as well and I also made some adjustments to the tier list. Low tier expanded a lot, Yoshi, Ichigo and Naruto moved up a few spots and Chibi and Megaman dropped a few spots. More minor changes like Peach moving out of top tier as well.
